Modeling the behavior of water with animation.

Project:

Technical Animations

Role:

Creative Director

Background:

Hydrology is the scientific study of water’s properties, distribution, and effects on the earth’s surface and atmosphere. Our client was working with the National Highway Administration to create an online hydrology course to help explain basic concepts in channeling water away from roadways. We were tasked with developing animated models that would supplement this course and demonstrate how different construction methods would channel water.

Solution:

Using old reference videos and textbook diagrams, we carefully created topographic and construction models. Since the water flow aspect was incredibly important in these animations, we researched ways to make this as realistic as possible and incorporated a new technology in our production to achieve the desired effects.

Results:

These videos have been incorporated in the NHI’s hydrology course and have been a useful tool in educating civil engineers on the effects of proper hydrology management.
